Projects
We have projects the world over, helping clients reduce harmful reservoir emissions.
Current Project
Research project on the GHG status of freshwater reservoirs: The G-res Tool
The aim of the project is to develop a new modeling approach to estimate the net change in GHG emissions (CO2 and CH4) due to the introduction of a reservoir. The model estimates Net GHG footprint taking into consideration the GHG footprint of the landscape prior to impoundment, the particular environmental setting of each reservoir (climatic, geographic, edaphic and hydrologic), the temporal evolution of the GHG emissions over the lifetime of the reservoir, the displaced GHG emissions,…

Methane Measurement in Reservoirs Project
This project is a first-of-its-kind global greenhouse gas observation network for hydropower reservoirs. This world first measuring project will generate new data to update existing datasets and models through a partnership between the International Hydropower Association (IHA), Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and Bluemethane, with funding from the Global Methane Hub….
Current Project
GHG-CaRe: GHG emissions from Canadian Reservoirs
A survey of Canadian reservoirs
In 2019, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) adopted a new Methodology Report that require countries to include greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from flooded lands in their National Inventories Report. Proposed estimation approaches rely on simple averages of emissions rates per climate zone, inappropriate for large countries with diverse landscapes such as Canada.
