With more than 35 years of career as a professor of limnology in the Department of Biological Sciences at UQAM, Yves Prairie has supervised or co-supervised more than 23 master’s students, 13 doctoral students, and 12 postdoctoral fellows. Recently elected to the Royal Society of Canada, he was one of the founding members of GRIL and served as its director for 9 years. He also held a UNESCO Chair in global environmental change for several years. His research interests focus on various aspects of the biogeochemistry of carbon and nutrients in lakes and reservoirs. He has notably contributed to several major research projects such as Eastmain, Timex/CAFE, Lake Pulse, and GHG CaRe. He has been involved internationally with the IPCC and in the development of the G res model in collaboration with the International Hydropower Association.

Greenhouse gases emissions in reservoirs at a global scale: G-res Tool and Methane measurements in reservoirs projects.
Sara Mercier-Blais
Research Associate
After a M.Sc. degree studying the impacts of thermal stratification on GHG emissions from a natural lake, Sara started to work in 2015 in Yves Prairie research laboratory at University of Québec at Montréal (UQAM). As a research associate, her main work is for the G-res Tool and Methane measurements in reservoirs projects, but she also assists the graduate student’s projects in the lab and on the field. She has field experience in multiple aquatic ecosystems such as reservoirs in Canada, Portugal, Malaysia and natural lakes and rivers in Quebec. As part of the G-res Tool team, Sara was directly involved in the development of the modelling framework behind the G-res Tool, the design of the online interface and the construction of a database predicting GHG emissions for over 4000 reservoirs worldwide. She is also the creator of the Certified G-res Tool Training and the current Lead Trainer.

Greenhouse gases emissions in Canadian hydroelectric reservoirs and Methane measurements in reservoirs projects.
Alexie Roy-Lafontaine
Research Associate
Alexie is a research associate in Yves Prairie research laboratory at Université du Québec à Montréal, who has field and lab experience in GHG emissions both in freshwater reservoirs and coastal inundated terrestrial soils. During her master’s degree, she conducted fieldwork in the Canadian Arctic, focusing on GHG production at the land–ocean interface. More recently, she has worked on reservoirs across multiple Canadian provinces as part of the GHG-CaRe project. As part of the research group, she is involved in field campaigns, laboratory analyses, and data interpretation related to GHG dynamics, and contributes to the organization and deployment of national and international sampling campaigns.
